Last night was the opening for the first-ever Maui Open Studios tour, held at the Maui Tropical Plantation. Created by the amazing San Francisco artist and former Maui resident Carolyn Quan, it spans three weekends and includes over 100 artists this year. Modeled after “open studio” tours in other cities, #MauiOS (the Twitter tag we are using) is designed to let the public get up close and personal with the artists in their studio environments, as the work is being created. Carolyn has done an incredible job of pulling all this together. We are so grateful to her efforts on our behalf.
Mahalo to our great friend and photographer Peter Liu of Kaiscapes, who took this picture of us. Plus these special Maui friends who joined us: Dania Katz, Kathy Becklin, Jalove, Liza Pierce and her husband Bradley, and Melanie Boudar of Sweet Paradise Chocolatier.
Carolyn estimated over 1000 people attended the opening, and we can attest to being shoulder-to-shoulder for over three hours nonstop! It was so exciting to see Shane’s art being so well-received and to meet so many of the Maui artists. What a community! Today we toured many of the artist studios in Lahaina, Kihei, and Wailea and I was personally moved by how warm and friendly everyone was, in addition to being so incredibly talented!
